Staying
Smoke Free
Lieutenant Colonel Noun Vannak, 33 years old, works at the Border
Head Office. He had been a heavy smoker for 13 years.
“I quit smoking after I attended
Khmer Quit Now! which made
me aware of how harmful smoking is, and helped me to quit”,
said Lieutenant Vannak.
Smoking three packets of cigarettes a day since the age of 20, the
habit already affected Lieutenant Vannak’s health, causing
him to cough often. However, after he quit smoking his health slowly
improved. He was able to save $1 US per day from cigarette money.
Lieutenant Vannak has kept his commitment to stay smoke free. After
quitting he often had cravings for a cigarette, but instead of smoking
he would do something else like do sports.
The stop smoking class held at the Border Head Office has helped
22 participants including Vannak to successfully quit smoking. Vannak’s
advice to people in the Military and Civil Society is minding their
health and stop smoking.
